A group of daredevil scholars agreed to pose for a saucy naked calendar to raise money for poverty-stricken third world countries.
These brainy undergraduates at Oxford University seem have to mislaid their gowns…and all the rest of their clothing.
Around 60 students took part in the calendar in aid of Oxford-based charity TravelAid.
The order from General Dwight D. Eisenhower:Soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the Allied expeditionary force: You are about to embark upon a great crusade toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving peoples everywhere march with you.Your children and neighbors thank you for this priceless service.
You will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.
Now wait just a wallopin' minute here.Isn't Leslie Nielsen just so... Leslie Nielsen?
Doesn't the Italian title sound so... provocative?

A three-for-one entry, as the same organization sponsors calendars featuring Rugby League, International, and Australian Rules players. Oops, make that four: There's also The Men of Cricket. All calendars benefit the McGrath Foundation to help women with breast cancer and their families.
Breaking Radio Silence - The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company Newsletter
Greetings everyone and welcome to the ARTC newsletter, published on or around the first Tuesday of each month! The purpose of a newsletter is to bring news, so let's begin with news about...
The First ARTC art contest!
ARTC is well known for its adaptations of H. P. Lovecraft's classic horror. With adaptations of At the Mountains of Madness, The Dunwich Horror, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, and The Rats in the Walls in our CD collection and The Colour Out of Space in our live production catalog we thought we'd return to one of our earliest adaptations, The Call of C'thulhu. Originally adapted by Gerald W. Page and performed at the first Dragon*Con in 1987, the script has, unfortunately, been lost. Ron N. Butler, creator of Rory Rammer and adapter of The Colour Out of Space, among other outstanding new audio dramas, has agreed to do a brand new adaptation for us, which we will present as part of our 25th Anniversary celebration at Dragon*Con 2009.
We'd like for YOU to create the promotional poster and, eventually, CD cover art for this project. Here are the specifics:
- Artwork should be portrait style, 3.75" x 7.5" with a "live" area of 3.25" x 7".
- Submissions should be in jpg, gif, or png format, emailed to art@artc.org. Questions may be sent here as well.
- Submissions should depict your vision of the short story The Call of C'thulhu by H. P. Lovecraft and must be your original work. We'll fill in our logo, name, and showtimes afterwards.
- Once a winner has been selected, a final version should be provided as a high-res Photoshop (psd) or TIF file of at least 300dpi.
- One winner will receive the entire H. P. Lovecraft ARTC CD collection as well as a copy of the new Rory Rammer, Space Marshal CD.
- Three runners-up will receive a copy of the new Rory Rammer, Space Marshal CD.
- Artwork will be properly credited, but becomes the property of the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company.
- Submission deadline: June 7, 2009
New Social Networking:
ARTC is pleased to be participating in the current online gab-fest that is Twitter!
Studio Productions:
The CD for Rory Rammer, Space Marshal is nearing completion! We aim to have it available for mail order and download in time for our appearance at LibertyCon on July 11...if not before. In the meantime, don't forget the outtakes from the studio sessions. These are being made available exclusively to subscribers of Breaking Radio Silence...not even the podcast gets this kind of content. We're repeating the link from last month for our new subscribers. And if you like it, let us know and we'll be sure to include more like it in the future!
Also, you told us and we listened. New pricing at Audible.com makes your favorite ARTC studio recordings more affordable than ever. Each piece is available individually or as the same set we sell on CD by mail order. Download and complete your collection!
In the meantime, don't forget our already extensive catalog!

This month we bring you Blues for Johnny Raven. Longtime listeners to the podcast will remember that this was the fifth podcast we ever published, and that we re-ran it later. But this is the 2009 edition, with Daniel W. Kiernan as Johnny Raven, Fiona K. Leonard as Gloria Kinsolving, and Mary Buchanan on live saxophone! This piece clearly illustrates the evolution of ARTC as a live performance audio drama company and the power of audio as a storytelling medium.

Right now we're putting the finishing touches on the long-awaited CD release of Rory Rammer, Space Marshal. In the meantime, allow us to whet your appetites with some outtakes from the studio sessions. These are being made available exclusively to subscribers of Breaking Radio Silence...not even the podcast gets this kind of content. ARTC Podcast:
The ARTC podcast for March included another installment from Mildly Exciting Tales of Astonishment: Baby Boom, by Jonathan Strickland, fresh from the 25th Anniversary performance. Next up for April we'll bring you a special favorite of ours, and we hope yours as well, Blues for Johnny Raven, by Thomas E. Fuller. Longtime listeners will recognize this piece as being the 5th show we ever put up on the podcast...we even re-ran it during our extended hiatus. This time, however, we are pleased to present the version performed in March for our 25th Anniversary kickoff. Featuring Daniel W. Kiernan as Johnny Raven, Fiona K. Leonard as Gloria Kinsolving, and Mary Buchanan on live saxophone, this piece demonstrates as few others can the power of the audio medium and the evolution of ARTC as a live performance company.
Tune in on the second Thursday of each month at 8pm for more free audio drama from ARTC!
Snippets from the Static:
- ARTC has a piece written by Ron N. Butler called Ask Mr. Omniscient, about a man on a radio talk show who knows everything. This isn't quite the same, but it's not far away, either!
- One of our longtime serials, Unresolved Mysteries, Solved While U Wait, created by Ron N. Butler, talks about UFO abductions and how the best way to document one is to be out in the middle of nowhere with no witnesses or recording devices. Does this qualify? You be the judge.
- Robert A. Heinlein's house is for sale. Sort of. Also for sale are adaptations of Robert A. Heinlein's short stories.
- And finally, for audio enthusiasts everywhere, a possible cure for tinnitus is very welcome news.
Haven't heard Ask Mr. Omniscient or Unresolved Mysteries: UFO Abductions? Want to? Let us know and we'll add them to the list of upcoming podcasts!
Off-dial Programming:

Former ARTC President Geoffrey M. Brown in his new production company, Dancing Monkey Cabaret! Next show: April 24-26 at the Academy Theatre.
ARTC member Jayne Lockhart will be appearing in "Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure" with the Town and Gown Players in Athens, GA! Show dates are April 17-19 and April 23-26.
Longtime ARTC members Clair W. Kiernan and Daniel W. Kiernan will be singing at a recital for students of John Sabine on Saturday May 9 at 5:00pm at the First Christian Church of Decatur.
